Reversing a flat conversion is the defining Willesden refurbishment and it involves more than removing partitions. Subdivision leaves layers: separate consumer units and meters, duplicated kitchens and bathrooms, soil stacks strapped to the rear elevation, fire doors and boxed-in service runs, sometimes a second staircase or a blocked original one. Each has to be unpicked and the structure checked wherever openings were formed or filled. Rushing services before the structure has settled, or plastering before the electrical work has been inspected, means reopening finished work at real cost.
